Among all the eastern Asian countries Malaysian people are the closest to Iranians in terms of culture and lifestyle. Many Iranian students study in Malaysia or even live there the rest of their lives.  Many Malaysians travel to Iran too. If you are a Malaysian citizen thinking about traveling to Iran, you should be happy to know that Iran's Government has very friendly relationship with Malaysia’s Government and it is very easy for Malaysian citizens to visit Iran.

Iran visa for Malaysians

Fortunately, you don’t need to apply to get an Iran visa, a 15 day Iran visa will be given to you at the airport. If you need more time to explore fascinating Iran, you can extend your visa up to 30 days.

You can also travel to Iran solo or with Iran travel agencies, the choice is by you. But I strongly recommend choosing a trustable Iran travel agency, so a native travel guide would accompany you throughout your whole Iran travel.

How to Travel to Iran from Malaysia?

It is a very long distance between Iran and Malaysia, but the mysteries and beauties worth it. I think the best way to travel to Iran from Malaysia is by airplanes. Thanks to the high rank of visitors Iran has from Malaysia, there is a direct flight from Kuala Lumpur to Tehran daily. 2 airlines support these flights: Mahan Air and Air Asia X. the cost in 2019-2020 is between 2000 to 2500 Malaysian ringgit and the flight will take about 8 hours.as someone with experience of traveling to Malaysia and back to Iran, between Mahan Air and Air Asia X I recommend Mahan Air since their seats are comfier and their food is more delicious.

You can use your Malaysian Sim card in Iran too

Iran supports tow Malaysian operators: Celcom and Maxis, but you can use them only via roaming which is really pricy. If you are looking for a cheaper way, you can buy a visitor Sim card from the Irancell operator in Iran, prices start from 12 ringgit.

The best time to travel to Iran from Malaysia

The high season and best time to travel to Iran is either the last days of winter and the beginning of spring (Iran will be filled with flowers, heavenly good weather, Nowrooz festival …) or the last days of summer and the beginning of autumn (weather is very cool and good, visiting sights are tranquil …)

Where to visit when you Travel to Iran from Malaysia

As I mentioned above I travel to Malaysia before and know exactly what Malaysians would find interesting when they travel to Iran. The weather in Malaysia is hot and humid, so I guess you might love the cold and cool weather of the northern cities of Iran like Tabriz, Ardabil, Rasht, Tehran, and etcetera. You can read more about each of these cities and their visiting sights on our cities info page.
