Importance of celebrations to Iranians

The Iranians are constantly looking for excuses to set up a celebration and prepare to gather together for happiness. The more people attend these festivities, the happier they are and the more enjoyable the party. In celebrations which are national and public, their happiness will be even greater if they celebrate it with friends and relatives and even strangers in the streets. For example, the last Wednesday of the year can be more enjoyable if they come together with neighbors and relatives in the neighborhood.
Ancient Iranians even named every single day of the year, celebrating each day with special privileges and doing certain special occasions for some special days. For example, much earlier than the birth of the priest Valentine and the story of the day of love, the ancient Iranians had a day of love and they all celebrated this day and prepared gifts for their lovers.

Special celebrations

We all have once upon a lifetime celebration like our graduation or wedding or the first wedding anniversary. But the wedding celebration is really important in Iranian culture. First, the guy proposes to the girl. Then they do this proposition with their families that are called Khastegary. Second, they call elderly relatives and celebrate the engagement which is called Bale-Boron. Then they do a pre-wedding that is called Aghd-Konoon. A night before their main wedding ceremony they have a celebration that is named Hanaa-Bandan and the wedding finally. But this is not the end, a day after the wedding is time for Patakhti ceremony. In some cities, the wedding itself may take more than 7 nights. Ask your guide in your tour to Iran to bring you in one of his relative's wedding-related ceremonies if possible. You will really enjoy it.

The study of Iranian celebrations and their time shows that they are common among all of them. First, almost all of them are related to natural, cosmic and climatic phenomena, and for this reason, they have been trying to adapt to the natural calendar as long as they are held. The Iranians have united their celebrations and patriotic rituals with marvelous solidarity and coexistence, and do not recognize ethnic, religious, and linguistic differences as a deterrent to this unity. Iranian rituals belong to all Iranians and all have tried to protect it.

One of the celebrations that are appointed to a very special territory in Iran is Gol-Ghaltan in Kashan.

Kashan is a very beautiful city and full of flower farms, a very special type of flower that has so many medical benefits, good taste and very mesmerizing smell that they use it as a perfume. This flower is called Gol-e-Mohammadi. Keep in mind that all of this beauty is placed at the heart of the desert.

When the season of picking flowers come, everybody becomes happy. Women get together in the gardens and if they have newborn babies or babies younger than two years old, open a big textile or their Chadoors and full it with Gol-e-Mohammadi flowers. Let their babies in and throw a large number of flowers on the baby’s head and body.  They celebrate this day and think this acting will make their babies healthier and happier and the good smell of the flower will always be with their bodies.

The ceremonies of the celebration include the Khane-Tekani, in which you clean any single thing in your house, in your workplace and totally wherever around you, seeing and visiting relatives, you go to their house eat a mixture of nuts called Ajil and sweets and fruits and sometimes they ask you to stay for lunch or dinner and the host gives you a gift or some money as your new year gift and that is called Eidi (the most enjoyable part) after that and they come to yours and do the same, and the New Year trips. It's time for the Seven Sins table including apple and some other meals starting with the letter S in Iranian language that needs a big article itself.

Charshanbe-Soori, which is also celebrated by the end of the year and the Red Wednesday night. One of the Iranian celebrations that will be held on the last night of Wednesday (from Tuesday evening) is the first celebration of Nowruz.

Yalda Night or Night of Chala is one of the oldest Iranian celebrations. The night is celebrated as the tallest night of the year followed by the longest days in the northern hemisphere, which coincided with the winter beginning. Yalda is said to be between the sunset from the 30th day of Day ( 10th month of Iranian Year) to the dawn on the first day of the winter. Iranian families at Yalda's Night usually eat delicious nuts, as well as various kinds of fruits and, most commonly, watermelon. After the flavors, the storytelling of the elderly is common for other members of the family, as well as forgiveness with the Divan of Hafez.
